Many kids love the excitement of theme parks and fun fairs, and the USA certainly won’t disappoint with its dazzling selection! There are those that are specially aimed at younger visitors and those that have a wide array of rides and activities for all members of the family to enjoy together.
Most people have heard of the amazing Disney parks and the Six Flags brand, but what others do you know?
Spread all across the country, here are some top picks of theme parks not to miss when enjoying a family American adventure:
Sesame Place
Located just outside of Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia, this is an excellent place for kids to have lots of fun and for the grownups to get all nostalgic and relive their own childhood. Based around the popular characters of Sesame Street, the colourful and fun theme park contains a good selection of kid-friendly rides and lively shows that are sure to have you all smiling and laughing.
Story Land
Story Land is a delightful place for younger kids and you’ll find it in the town of Glen in New Hampshire. The small kiddie rides are based on popular and well-loved fairytales – your children can take a ride in Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, shriek with joy on the dinosaur-themed roar-o-saurus, fly through the air in a giant clog or a flying fish, meet Alice in Wonderland on the quaint spinning teacups, head in the Arctic on the Polar Coaster, ride beautiful swan boats, and more! Although designed primarily with children in mind, the rides are big enough that adults can join their children too. There are terrific play areas where your children can make new little friends, as well as fun shows and games.
Diggerland
In New Jersey’s West Berlin, this is a top spot for kids that love all things related to construction and machinery. It is often hugely popular with boys, but there is still plenty to keep the girls happy too. A truly unique attraction park, if you or your kids have ever dreamt about taking control of mammoth pieces of equipment, here’s your chance! Have fun on a reconstructed, and safe, building site! With over 20 great attractions you are sure to be kept very busy. Plenty of interesting information is provided and trained professionals deliver exciting stunts shows and demonstrations throughout the day.
Victorian Gardens
Found within New York’s large Central Park, the Victorian Gardens transports your family back in time to a charming Victorian-era funfair. With rides like a mini roller coaster, carousel, swings, and bumper boats, it cannot help but delight younger visitors.
Kings Island
A popular theme park in Ohio’s Mason, Kings Island offers fabulous fun for people of all ages. Combining lad attractions and a water park, it is the biggest amusement park in the whole of the Midwest. The award-winning Planet Snoopy is guaranteed to give the kids lots to smile about, with its brilliant selection of smaller rides based around the famous cartoon character and his friends. Dinosaurs Alive is another great zone for younger visitors, with great mechanical statues / models and heaps of interactive activities and fascinating information. Both fun and educational, take a step back in time to when the mighty dinosaurs roamed the earth. Thrill rides give the adults a dose of shrieks and squeals, and there are also rides that young and old alike can enjoy together.
Other great attraction parks across the USA for family fun include California’s Legoland, Colorado’s Elitch Gardens, Ohio’s Cedar Point, Santa’s Village (open all year round) in Illinois, Cowabunga Bay in Nevada, Nickelodeon Universe in Minnesota, Missouri’s Silver Dollar City, Magic Springs in Arkansas, Jungle Island and Fun Spot America in Florida, Georgia’s Stone Mountain Park, The Family Kingdom in South Carolina, and the State Fair of Texas.
