Paris

Paris is a thriving and captivating city at any time of the year, although in the autumn months you are more likely to see Parisians on the streets than international visitors.  If the weather isn’t being so kind pop inside to one of the city’s many museums (don’t forget to take along a copy of the Kids’ Travel Guide – Paris Museums!).  You can still enjoy all the favourite spots, such as the Eiffel Tower, Sacres Coeur, Notre Dame, Place de la Concorde, the bustling Champs Elysses, and so on.

Orleans

At the heart of the “Garden of France” – the stunning Loire Valley – and surrounded by a plethora of elegant and impressive castles, Orleans is a terrific base from which to explore more of this beautiful area.  Your kids are sure to love seeing the magnificent chateaus and there are plenty of opportunities to get out into nature and enjoy long brisk walks and fresh air amongst the reds, browns, yellows, and oranges of autumn.  The many bakeries around the city are the perfect place to pick up a traditional French breakfast and, when the kids are tucked up in bed, the parents can kick back with a glass or two of the area’s famous wines.

Strasbourg

Located in the Alsace area and with an interesting character that blends French and German influences, Strasbourg is a truly beautifully city with outstanding architecture and plenty for little ones to feast their eyes upon.  Wander the cobbled-stone streets of the historical Petite France and take trips to other gorgeous nearby towns and cities such as Mulhouse, Colmar, Selestat, and Rixheim.  Getting out into the pretty countryside is easy too.

Avignon
