Khao Kheow Open Zoo

Activities Asia Destinations Thailand

If your children love animals they are sure to love this brilliant zoo in Chonburi Province.  Just a couple of hours outside of Bangkok, the well-maintained zoo is home to lots of interesting animals.

Animals are not kept in cages – they walk around large spaces.  They are mainly kept in place by deep ditches.  Animals include elephants, rhinos, penguins, red pandas, monkeys, giraffes, kangaroos, zebras, hyenas, birds, tigers, lions … and more!  It is possible to get pretty close to some of the animals.  You can also see the animals being fed at different times throughout the day.

Set in beautiful mountain scenery, you can drive around the park yourself if you have your own transportation.  If not, there are golf buggies that you can hire as well as sightseeing trolleys.

There are plenty of places to stop for food and drink within the park too, as well as a terrific play area for little ones.

There is also an evening admission where you can see a wide variety of animals in the dark.  This lets your kids see how some animals come awake at night time and lets them see more than just during the day time.  It really does add a new side to the animal kingdom.

The zoo does lots of conservation and educatonal work too, so you know that your family is supporting a good cause.
