White Temple, Chiang Rai
Known officially as Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai’s White Temple is like something straight out of a fairytale. Gleaming white walls cast their reflection onto the shimmering pool of water in front, and it really is a very magical sight.
Wat Umong, Chiang Mai
Amongst Chiang Mai’s hundreds of historical temples, Wat Umong stands out as being slightly different because of the intriguing tunnels that run into the mountainside. A large and mainly concealed from the outside world complex, it is surrounded by beautiful nature.
Sai Ngam, Nakhon Ratchasima
Sai Ngam is located in the town of Phimai. It is the biggest banyan tree system in Thailand. Banyan trees have twisting tendrils that grow down to the ground and then take root, giving the appearance of a tree with many trunks, when it is actually a singular tree! Completely covered, you can wander through the incredible tree system, which feels more like a mini forest than just one solo tree.
Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi
Often referred to as the Switzerland of Thailand, this delightful place in the countryside feels like you have left the well-known facets of Thailand far behind. Lush mountains and European-inspired resorts stretch into the distance, and the area is also well-known for its quirky sheep farms where kids can have fun feeding the animals.
Sala Keoku, Nong Khai
A weird and wonderful place, Sala Keoku presents a different vision of Buddhism and Hinduism. A great cultural attraction as well as being totally offbeat, your family can admire the large and unusual statues that are spread throughout the park.
Sam Phan Bok, Ubon Ratchathani
Right over in the east of the country and close to the borders with Cambodia and Laos, Sam Phan Bok is one of Thailand’s most unusual natural attractions. Only visible in the dry season, it is a unique landscape of holes of all shapes and sizes in the river bed, caused by the ebb and flow of the Mekong River. You can explore the moon-like terrain by foot or by boat.
Lalu, Sa Kaeo
Another natural curiosity, Lalu is an area of unusual earth pinnacles or canyons, depending on whether you’re viewing the area from the bottom or the top! The unusual formations were caused by erosion. The tractor ride to access the area is also often heaps of fun for younger visitors.
Magic Garden, Surat Thani
On the popular island of Koh Samui, the Magic Garden is an imaginative collection of statues that tell a number of Thai folklore tales. Surrounded by lush greenery and nature and with a babbling brook running through the grounds, it is both unusual and beautiful.
Sanctuary of Truth, Chonburi
A large, attractive, and striking carved wooden building, the stunning Sanctuary of Truth cannot help but impress all who set eyes on it. Intricate and ornate, your kids are bound to love examining all the wonderful carved details.
Wat Mahatat, Ayutthaya
Amongst the ruined temples a former once mighty Siamese capital you’ll find a rather unique sight – a stone Buddha head encased within a tree!
Wat Lan Kuat, Si Saket
Another unusual temple attraction, this one has been made entirely from glass bottles. Cultural, environmentally-friendly, and very whimsical, what more could you ask for?! It took more than one and a half million bottles to build!
Baan Teelanka, Phuket
Known in English as the Upside Down House, this modern attraction promises fun for the whole family. Upside down both inside and out, puzzle your way around rooms and enjoy the feeling of dancing on the ceiling! There’s a fantastic maze outside too.
