The large Italian island of Sardinia is a fabulous playground for adults and kids alike. A fantastic place to enjoy the best of the beautiful Mediterranean and experience an Italian culture that is slightly different to on the mainland, the island boasts gorgeous beaches, ancient ruins, lively cities, charming villages, and plenty of activities both in the water and on dry land. Costa Smeralda
With some of the most stunning beaches and close proximity to one of the island’s liveliest cities, Porto Cervo, there are plenty of ways for the little ones to have fun around the Costa Smeralda. The beaches in the south tend to be a bit busier than those n the north – whether your family are looking for lots of water sports and beach activities, or whether you prefer to find your own peaceful little spot for the kids to run and play with not too many other people, you’ll find a beach to make you smile. The soft sands are great for the adults to sunbathe whilst the kids play and the dazzling emerald waters will entice everyone to take a dip. Wander around the bustling port where your kids can admire the boats bobbing about on the water, and take a boat trip to the gorgeous La Maddalena Archipelago. The fun Aqua Dream Waterpark with its pools, slides, lazy river, and other attractions is often popular with kids and you can all see into the area’s past with a trip to theBronze Age Fortress at Arzachena. The area has plenty of places to eat and sleep and it close to Olbia Airport, meaning no long transfers!
Giara Plateau
Home to the island’s small wild ponies, your children will be delighted at seeing these lovely animals running freely as nature intended. It is also usually easy to spot big flocks of sheep and the area is also home to pigs, cows, goats, various species of birds, and more! A rugged and rural area, it is perfect for kids that love being close to nature and spending time in the great outdoors. There are many wild flowers to admire and the views are amazing. Active families can enjoy scenic hiking aand there are interesting caves and pretty beaches not too far away.
Piscinas
The towering sand dunes at Piscinas are great for exploring as well as a game of hide and seek! Older kids will probably love climbing up the dunes and then rolling down again. The views are incredible from the tops of the dunes too, with the blue of the ocean in one direction and the green of the inland towards the other. Teens will probably like having a g on the quad bikes, and everyone can take a breather on the nice beach.
Alghero
Alghero is a delightfully charming town that enjoys a really sleepy vibe in the evenings. If your kids to like to explore they will probably really enjoy wandering through the old streets and seeing the cute little buildings in town. You can also take them down t the busy port to watch the boats coming and going and there is also a pretty beach close by. Head out for adventures on the open sea with a boat trip – Asinara Island with its donkeys is a top choice and many kids are captivated by the impressive Nettuno Grotto with its striking rock formations. Spot an array of underwater life with some great snorkelling.
There are several animal-shaped large rock formations around the island that often inspire awe and wonder in little ones, and the capital of Cagliari has a wide assortment of things to do and see for people of all ages.
