Blogger Interview – Kate, Have Diapers, Will Travel

Blogger interview Have diapers will travel Interviews Kate

We are very happy to continue our series of blogger interviews with Kate, a blogger that we absolutely adore from the sunny Florida! She writes over at Have diapers, will travel but for now why don’t you read her interview below:

FK: Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Kate, and I live in Central Florida with my husband and two little boys, Harrison and Grayson. I’m originally from England, but moved to Florida right after graduating college.

FK: Why did you start your own travel/parenting blog?

Before we had children, my husband and I loved to travel, but when I was pregnant with Harrison, people often commented that our traveling days were over, and that travel with kids was too difficult. We decided that this wouldn’t apply to us, and that we’d just take our little ones with us! Friends and family asked all the time how we managed to travel with such young children, and in the end, I decided a blog would be the best way to answer those questions, and pass along what we’ve learned from traveling with our kids.

FK: When did you start your blog and what motivates you to write?

I started my blog one year ago in October 2016, and I’m always amazed that it has grown the way that it has! My main motivation to write is to help other parents make travel with kids fun and easy; every time I read an article that states that travel with kids is too expensive or a waste of time, I want to show that isn’t the case! Every time we’re on the road and I learn something new or discover a new trick to make our travels easier, I can’t wait to share it with my readers!

FK: What kind of blogger, traveller are you?

I would definitely consider myself a family travel blogger, since the places we visit are always family friendly (even if they don’t necessary look that way on the outside!) I’m a fairly laid-back traveler; I embrace the fact that not everything is going to go to plan, and sometimes absolutely nothing goes to plan! The only time I get anxious is when I fly; despite flying thousands of miles each year, I’m actually pretty scared of flying!

FK: Who has impacted you most in blogging and how?

I’m always inspired by other travel and parenting bloggers, and I love to read their articles to get tips for my own travels. My biggest inspiration is a family known as The Bucket List Family from Utah, who sold everything they owned to travel the world with their young children. They travel to places that I would never have considered going to with children, and it’s inspired me to think outside the box when it comes to our own travel destinations. We recently took a trip to Iceland, somewhere I would never considered going with my kids, and we all had a great time!

FK: What is your biggest challenge about being a mom, blogger and writer?

Managing my time, for sure! As a mom, there are never enough hours in the day as it is, and then trying to find the time to write on top of that is always challenging! I find that the best time for me to work is when the children have gone to bed, and I have time to myself. My biggest tip is to keep a list of things I need to get done during the day that I can consult in the evening; once the kids are in bed, I start at the top of the list and work my way down. If I don’t do this, I find myself waking in the middle of the night, remembering something I meant to do hours ago!

FK: Are there any bad parts in the world of blogging?

I wouldn’t say bad parts necessarily, but some parts can be frustrating. It’s easy to compare yourself to bigger, more established bloggers, and start to feel a bit discouraged that you’re not at the same level as they are. I try to remember that blogging is a job, and with any job, you start at the bottom and work your way up. It’s a lot of hard work (a lot harder than I think most people realize!) but it is a very rewarding job, and I wouldn’t do it unless I really loved it!

FK: What do you do in your spare time?

Spare time, what’s that?! Most of my time is spent with my family, and obviously we get out and explore the world as often as we can. We’re also lucky enough to live just a few minutes from the Central Florida theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Legoland Florida, and we spend many a weekend at the parks enjoying the gorgeous Florida weather. If I ever do get time to myself, I love to run, and compete in races as often as I can.

What do you think about our Kids’ Travel Guides and would you recommend them to your family, friends and readers?

I absolutely love the Kids’ Travel Guides! They are a great way to prepare a child for travel to a new place by engaging them in what they will see and do when they get there, so they can be excited to visit. I also love that they have activities that can be completed while seeing the sights of a new city or country; this is a great way to keep a child occupied while mom and dad look around! I would recommend these guides to anyone who travels with children, whether flying with them or taking a road trip, it’s a great way to keep them occupied.
